Back in March for International Women’s Day, I had women in my private facebook group, The Flame Society, nominate someone who they felt would benefit from a Denver boudoir experience with me. I was slightly overwhelmed with messages about women who I knew deserved this. I really put myself in a tough position, having to pick just one to receive a complimentary experience with me. I was looking for that one nomination to hit me, to strike a cord with me, to impress me. And I am hard to impress, not a trait I am proud of but damn, when I am impressed it’s worth it. Heather’s story and how she handled herself with not only grace, but with strength is more than impressive, it’s inspiring. Giving her this experience was a no brainer.
“When I thought of who I was going to nominate for International Woman’s Day, I had no other person in mind but Miss Heather. Through her 23 years she’s had to handle a plate full of responsibilities. When her dad died when she was 5 she grew up faster than any child should have to. She took me by the hand and lead me through the darkest time of my life. In her very short little life she had mastered kindness and the art of humility. When her fiance, whom she had been dating for 6yrs, just upped and left her, I had no clue how to console her. I wanted so bad to give her motherly advice but I had no idea what she was going through. I did the best I could as horrible as my words of wisdom sounded it was all I could offer. She held herself up the best she could but you could see she was devastated. Who wouldn’t be? She never was given an explanation as to why he left. It left millions of questions in her mind unanswered. That is where she became more self-conscious than she ever was. Much time when by when she finally picked herself up enough to take the plunge to move to Denver. She had learned independence! She was finally growing into that strong, independent woman we were telling her she was. But Heather is the usual girl. She’s her biggest critic!! If only someone could tell her that she was beautiful on the inside and out and she would believe it! I’ve said it a million times but I’m her mother, I’m ‘supposed to say that’. But she is!!! She needed something to make her look and feel beautiful!! This was it! She’d been eyeballing these photos for weeks and what a great way to make her more beautiful than she already is (if that’s even possible). There is so much more to Heather. This is just a glimpse of what she has done for me. She had done thousands of deeds that make her worthy of this photo shoot. I can go on for days raving about her. She’s perfect to me. She’s my strength. She’s my life. She’s my beautiful. She’s my best friend. She’s my daughter.” -Annette, Heather’s Mother.
Tell us about yourself girl!
My name is Heather! I’m 23 years old and I’m cosmetologist!
Were you nervous about having a boudoir experience?
I was pretty nervous the day of the shoot! Leading up to it picking out the beautiful lingerie was pretty exciting though!!
What made you decide to go ahead and take the plunge?
I’ve always wanted to do a boudoir shoot so being presented the opportunity I was ecstatic! Why not right! I decided to put my fears to the side and have a little fun with it!
What was your biggest fear or challenge coming into your shoot?
My biggest fear going in to the shoot was being to critical of myself. It’s very common for me to pick out my smallest flaws.
After your shoot- was it what you expected or different?
It’s everything I expected! It was so much fun! It went so smooth and I felt liked I’ve done it many times before!
What was your favorite part of the whole experience?
My absolute favorite part of the whole experience was the reveal! You never really look at yourself that way! It was pretty cool to see myself in a different light!
How did seeing your images make you feel?
Seeing myself in the images I was pretty much was blown away! Kenzie knew exactly how to make every pose and picture look so effortless! It was definitely the most exciting part!
Has this experience affected your day to day life? Do you see yourself differently?
I definitely do see myself a little different! Seeing myself enjoying the moment and feeling so confident makes me want to feel the same way everyday!!
What would you say to a woman who is on the fence about having their own experience?
DO IT! You have anything to lose and all the confidence to gain!
How was it working with Kenzie?
Kenzie made me feel more confident than I thought was possible! She made me feel so comfortable and made my incredibly stiff body look so graceful and effortless! Ahaha
Would you do it again?
As soon as I finished the shoot I immediately knew I wanted to do one every few years or so! There is no harm in celebrating your body!!
